Dimensional illustration uses sculptural techniques to create an image that is subsequently photographed for the final artwork. Movies such as Tim Burton’s Nightmare before Christmas were realized using animated dimensional illustrations. It is a work intensive technique but the results can be extremely compelling.
Most of my work is done using a mixed media approach including wood, self hardening clay, paper, acrylic and other materials to create the original image. Lighting is also a very important component in the creation of the final photograph. These illustrations were not used in movies but instead in static applications like magazine covers, posters or brochure covers.
